Coronavirus: Know the important points of the economic package

Delhi:  Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced an economic package of one lakh 70 thousand crore to provide relief to the poor, farmers, poor women, senior citizens who are most affected by the lockdown situation. The government has announced an insurance of Rs 50 lakh to all doctors, nurses, para medical staff, ASHA workers engaged in the battle with coronavirus infection. 



The Finance Minister said that the poor will be helped from both food and money. Every person coming under BPL will get 5 kg extra rice or wheat free for the next three months and every family will get 1 kg extra pulses for the next three months. Five crore wheat or rice will be benefited by 80 crore beneficiaries.
The wages under MNREGA were increased from 82 to 202 rupees. This will benefit 5 crore families and will have an additional income of Rs. 2000 per worker. The Finance Minister said that farmers will get the first installment of Rs 2000 under the Kisan Samman Nidhi in the first week of April itself. 8.69 crore farmers will get the benefit.
An additional amount of Rs 1000 will be given in two installments to 3 crore senior citizens, widows and disabled people. 20 crore women Jan Dhan account holders will be given an amount of Rs 500 per month for the next three months. Similarly, the government will give free cylinders to 8 crore BPL families under the Ujjwala scheme for the next three months.
Under the PM Garib Kalyan Yojana for the organized sector employees, the Government of India will pay 24% contribution of the Provident Fund of both employers and employees for the next three months. This will be done for those establishments which have up to 100 employees and whose 90 per cent employees are less than 15 thousand employees. This will benefit about 80 lakh employees and about 4 lakh establishments.
